March's Sauce of the Month? Goblin Sauce!

March's Sauce of the Month? Goblin Sauce!

Starting in March, we'll be featuring a new pick as TorchBearer's Sauce of the Month. Not only will it be 20% off all month long, but also featured on the blog, social media, and emails! Learn the behind-the-scenes stories, failed attempts, and more. So for all of you fans curious about the inner workings of TorchBearer... here you go.

The Story Behind Our Collaboration

It's so much fun to work with folks outside our circle on ideas and sauce creations! Having watched multiple YouTube videos of Nekrogoblikon, we knew, if they were interested, we could make some really fun sauce and the label would almost design itself.

We reached out over Instagram and, to our surprise, Alex Alereza (guitarist and writer for the band) hit us back immediately. He told us the band were big hot sauce fans and had wanted their own for awhile. We were excited and the partnership turned out to be laidback and fun!

Introducing our first collab with this one-of-a-kind metal outfit...

Nekrogoblikon's Goblin Sauce

The band wanted to start out with something hot but not too hot and after some initial trials and tastings, Goblin Sauce was born. We don't remember how it began, but we knew it had to be green so jalapenos were a must.

Scott (our Kitchen Manager) had always wanted to use orange juice and we were loving our Pineapple Papaya BBQ at home so a fruit theme was already swirling around in our minds. With a few other ingredients we often use as a base (like vinegar, garlic, salt, and pepper) added into the mix, it was good but needed a bit more kick.

Keeping the natural sweet feel in mind, we figured a little bit of scorpion pepper (with their mild fruitiness) would bring it up a notch, not detract from the flavor, and not get too wild, as long as we didn't go overboard. And with that, Goblin Sauce was born!

Taste Profile

This one starts off sweet and citrusy due to the pineapple and orange juice, then gets a little mean with a heap of jalapeno and a smattering of scorpion. Anyone with typical medium-level heat tolerance has told us it takes them right to the edge of their comfort zone without going too far (unless they've used too much).

The flavor is great and the heat, while a bit intense, hits fast and leaves almost as quickly.

What to Put Goblin Sauce on

It's a great sauce for anything that needs a little fruitiness and a little heat. We like it on:

  • Eggs
  • Subs
  • Steak sandwiches (band fav!)
  • Egg rolls (band fav!)

Goblin Sauce has really been growing in popularity the last year. Here's what some reviewers had to say:

"Initially purchased it for the novelty, but got hooked on the flavor. Bright and fruity, with a mild heat; A sauce that begs to be tried on a wide variety of foods." - Crash.Fu

"This is legit my favorite hot sauce ever! Let alone tied to my favorite band. Please don't stop producing it. I need this for the rest of my life!" - Gary E.
